Good morning!
A subscriber mentioned they donβt use social media often and would prefer to get the clues via email. So Iβll keep posting about the Black History Scavenger Hunt. :)
πTodayβs Clue: Tucked away and on a hill, find the community spot known for its sporty activities that always give kids a thrill! πΌπ
π Day 2: Bethel AME Church
Bethel African Methodist Church was founded in 1865, after over 100 freedmen, led by Rev. Robert Meacham, broke from the segregated Trinity Methodist Church South to form their own. They first started worshipping under a brush arbor located on the corner of Duval and West Virginia Streets. Now the congregation worships in an exemplary building on Orange Avenue.
Rev. Charles Pearce provided structure to the church, which he used as a political tool to gain power for the Black community. He thought it was impossible to separate politics from preaching. This sentiment was common amongst preachers, as the Black church was instrumental in anchoring and advancing the movements for Black freedom and civil rights.
See you tomorrow,
