It's here, y'all: Election Day 2024
No matter how this election turns out, there's plenty to be hopeful for.
11/5/2024
Morning everyone,
The day we’ve been gearing up for is finally here! Today, I’m filled with excitement and slight optimism. It’s still unclear which direction these races will go, but I feel like this election is creating fertile ground, at least in Tallahassee.
According to Leon County’s 2024 General Election Unofficial Voter Turnout Report, on-campus voter turnout at FAMU and FSU surpassed turnout during the 2020 General Election before early voting even concluded — which is an encouraging sign!
While we all may be filled with anxiety and discomfort waiting out the Presidential Election results, we should be excited by these turnout numbers! To me, it shows there’s a new wave of voters in Tallahassee who could be introduced to local, civic and political participation and add new life to the continued effort to reshape our communities.
Candidate Recommendations & Last-Minute Voting Reminders
If you live in Tallahassee, below are the candidates I recommend to push our beloved city out of a state of stagnancy and decline.
📌 Where you can vote on Election Day: https://official.votinginfotool.org/
📌 What you need to vote: A physical current and valid photo ID, like a Florida Driver's License, Florida Identification Card, Debit or Credit Card, Student ID, or Employee ID. If your photo ID does not include your signature, you must present an additional ID that includes your signature. ‼️ Your voter information card is not a valid ID for voting.

The consistent 3-2 vote split on the City Commission represents a lack of cohesion and is a significant barrier to progress. We must get past this barrier to progress our communities and solve problems, like rising unaffordability, inadequate public infrastructure and recurrent violent crime.
While I personally like Commissioner Richardson, his complacency and unwillingness to mend the divide on the Commission has led me to believe Dot Inman-Johnson will better serve Tallahassee.
No matter who ends up in Seat 2, we need to be more diligent in holding the City Commission accountable. Just a few days ago, the Tallahassee Democrat reported on the death of Jan-Felix, a 26 year-old international FSU student who succumbed to his injuries after being hit by a driver who ran a red light on Call/Monroe St, the same intersection where I had my near-fatal bike accident. Jan-Felix’s death came after the City Commission unanimously passed a motion to “explore joining Vision Zero”. An exploration is not even the bare minimum. We need effective, data-informed solutions to address these unnecessary tragedies, not actions that lead to additional delays.
