Question: How should the City respond to rising gas prices?
Shelby's answer: "By putting public dollars into our public transportation and utility system. Not by giving FSU $27 million and not by investing into the Northeast Gateway project."

On August 4th, there was a Big Bend Environmental Forum for primary candidates.
The candidates were asked “how do we … plan for the future of the city, [looking] at the preparations for higher gas prices”.
Shelby said:
The City Commission needs to invest into improving the quality and the attractiveness of our public transportation system and increasing distributed solar energy in our community.
We have to invest public dollars into our public transportation and utility system, not into luxury stadium upgrades or short-term traffic congestion relief in the Northeast.
