We’re about two weeks away from the election! Time has been passing so quickly, so I wanted to take a moment to slow down and share some reflections from the campaign trail.
I filed back in March, just six months ago. Here are some things I’ve learned since then:
Focus on the positive — You’re going to meet people that don’t support you or agree with your vision, and are not shy about vocalizing their opinion. That’s okay. Filter out the negativity and extract what’s valuable or constructive.
Spend less time on things — As a perfectionist, I’m prone to overthink and overdo. When you’re running a campaign, you can’t maintain that mindset. “Good” is okay. Release what you have to avoid the to-do list from piling up.
Ask for help — You can’t do everything yourself. Don’t be scared to ask for help. People want to support you and your dreams. Also, learn *how* to ask for help and recognize what people are willing to help you with.
Don’t be scared to brag about yourself — This may be a given, but campaigning is all about selling yourself. People do not know you or your intentions. Share your accomplishments and be proud of your work!
Be intentional with your time — Your time is precious. Make sure you are using it intentionally by asking yourself why you’re doing something. Avoid distractions fueled by anxiety, ego, etc.
These are just a few of the many lessons I’ve learned! I hope to share more in the future. For more information about voting, please check out this blog post.
